JB CUNNINGHAM CLAIMS 1ST MICRO SPRINT WIN OF HIS CAREER
JASON MORRISON GRABS A WIN IN A SIDEWINDE THRILLER
Hanover, PA (5/3/08) – JB Cunningham dominated the
entire 270cc micro sprint feature, Saturday night at Trail-Way
Speedway to pick up his first micro sprint victory. Cunningham,
who started on the pole position, maintained a distance of
several car lengths over Billy Laughman, who remained in the
second position for the entire 20-lap feature.
“It’s the greatest feeling in the world,”
exclaimed Cunningham as he exited his Digna Machine Corp.
#7C. Cunningham went on to dedicate his win to his late great
grandfather, who passed away this following Thursday.
“I got loose on the last lap… I just tried to
keep from spinning out,” Cunningham explained.
Current points leader Todd Hoover, started in the tenth position
and made his way to the top five by the fifth lap. Hoover
was currently 6 for 6 when it came to top five finishes, but
he didn’t stop there.
For the next several laps, Hoover put pressure on Sean McAndrew
for the fourth position, finally getting around him on the
13th lap. McAndrew didn’t back off of Hoover, returning
the favor the following lap, retaking the third position.
McAndrew remained behind Laughman for several more laps. With
two laps to go, Hoover reclaimed the third position once again
over McAndrew.
Completing the top five following Cunningham was Laughman,
Hoover, McAndrew, and Tim Clelland. Cody Phillips, Mike Boyer,
Steve Whary, Steve Daron, and Tanner Hunsicker rounded out
the top ten.
In the makeup 270cc micro sprint feature, Nik Gower picked
up his first feature win of the 2007 racing season. The race
almost went nonstop, with 15 green flag laps in the books
when a caution came out for water in the third turn. After
running in the water, Gower led the field to the green for
the final five laps of the makeup feature from 4/25.
Completing the top five was Cody Phillips, Todd Hoover, polesitter
Dave Schreiber, and David Holbrook.
Jason Morrison looked untouchable in the early stages of
the 1000cc Sidewinder sprint car feature race. Starting in
the fourth position, Morrison took complete control of the
initial ten laps of the race.
Fifth starting Ryan Greth, made his way up to Morrison’s
bumper when several cautions plagued the feature following
the halfway point. On the restart, Greth was once again able
to pull up to Morrison’s bumper, but a lapped car prevented
him from making the pass for the lead..
With four laps to go, Denny Landvater had pulled to the
infield, but after restarting his car, he pulled back out
onto the track, directly in front of Morrison and Greth.
Greth was able to slide down under Morrison and maneuver
his car in front of the lapped leader to take the race lead
for the first time on lap 17. With more lapped traffic quickly
approaching the leaders, Morrison stuck to the rear of Greth,
hoping to take advantage of the situation.
Morrison got his chance when the lapped car of Jason Eisenhart
slowed in front of race leader Greth, allowing him to easily
drive around to take the lead away for the win.
Following Morrison across the line was Greth, Shawn Seifert,
Brent Marks, and Tim Mertz. Arron Spahr, Jeremy Lynch, James
Shaw, John Robertson, and Rohan Beasley completed the top
ten.
Keith Woodson picked up a win in the 600cc micro sprint
division. Outside polesitter Jon Baker took the initial lead
and led until the tenth lap when Woodson make an inside move
coming out of turn number two. Baker spun out only a second
later, giving Woodson the lead.
Jimmy Brookens, who followed Woodson for several laps, was
unable to make a pass for the lead until the final lap. Brookens
pulled to the side of Woodson coming to the checkered flag,
but Woodson proved to be too strong for Brookens #11 600cc
micro sprint.
Following Woodson and Brookens across the line was Tim Dietz,
Tim Glatfelter, and Jake Murphy completing the top five.
In the 4 cylinder starlite oval division, Terry Hartlaub
picked up the feature win. In the scramble car features, Chad
Stine grabbed a win as Wes Kellison picked up the second feature
win. In the 6 cylinder starite oval feature, Joe Warrener
picked up the rain shortened feature win.
Next Friday (5/9), Trail-Way hosts the “358”
late models, RMP thundercars, Classic cars, and limited stocks
in a program which begins at 7:30 p.m. with gates opening
at 5:30 p.m.
270cc and 600cc micros return to Trail-Way on Saturday,
May 10th, with a make-up feature for the 600’s. Also
on that card will be the Central PA Legends, Starlite ovals,
and scramble cars. Gates and racing are at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.,

McCLELLAND CLAIMS SECOND STRAIGHT IN TRAIL-WAY “358”
SPRINTS;
JUSTIN MONG WINS RMP THUNDERCAR FEATURE; 2 WINS FOR KRESS
IN LIMITED STOCKS
Hanover, PA (5/2/08) – Make it two in-a-row for Brad
McClelland at Trail-Way Speedway.
The Westminster, MD open wheel star scored his 12th career
win in the “358” sprint car feature at the McSherrystown
oval Friday night, moving him into a tie with Billy Dietrich
at the top of the all-time Trail-Way win chart.
McClelland started eighth and advanced to the runner-up
spot by lap 13. In the meantime, two-time defending track
champ Jeff Rohrbaugh started sixth and moved through the field
to grab the lead from race-long leader Randy Davis, Jr. with
a slider exiting turn four of lap 11.
After disposing of Davis on the 13th-lap restart, McClelland
closed quickly on Rohrbaugh and raced wheel-to-wheel with
the Roy Vincent Racing #7V from laps 16 through 19. McClelland
nosed in front as the two crossed under the flagstand to complete
lap 19, and a caution for Billy Heltzel, Jr. (who stopped
on turn four) put McClelland at the point for the restart.
The B&D Truck Hoist/J&K Salvage/VMAC Racing #6 held
off Rohrbaugh over the remaining laps to cross two carlengths
ahead.
“I’m tired!” exclaimed McClelland in victory
lane, “I asked for a track like this and I got it. This
is a very racey track. I was getting loose on the top and
moved down…I probably should have stayed up there.”
“This is great racing,” added McClelland, “I
come here to race because it’s not ‘follow the
leader’ here.”
Rohrbaugh settled for second, with 10th-starting Dale Hammaker
third, 13th-starting Danny Dietrich fourth, and Joe Trone,
Jr. fifth. Completing the top ten were Steve Owings (who came
from the back after bringing out the caution on lap 12), DS
Diversified Services hard charger Nathan Berwager (who started
18th), Mike Duncan, Darren Schott, and Heltzel.
Friday night’s show was the first in which the required
Raceiver one-way radios were used, and the radios got passing
marks from hard charger Berwager, who praised them upon receiving
his award.
Heats for the 21 “358” sprinters were won by
Tim Wagaman and Rohrbaugh.
Justin Mong was in the right place at the right time to
pick up his first win of the year in the 20-lap RMP Thundercar
feature. Mong, who started eighth, was running third when
leaders Mike Fletcher and Brian Walls got together in turns
three and four of the 18th lap. Fletcher spun out and Walls
was sent to the rear for roughriding. Mong assumed the lead
for the restart and led the last two laps.
Rick Weaver crossed second, with Larry Neiderer, Allen Cullum,
and Ronnie Thomas completing the top five.
The lone heat for the thundercars was won by Fletcher.
Brad Kress picked up a pair of wins in the limited stock
division.
His first win came in a make-up feature from last Friday
(4/25), crossing ahead of Tyler Gastley and Roy Denike.
Kress came back to claim the win in the regularly-scheduled
event, coming from 12th starting spot to outrun Wes McDaniel
and Mark Reece.
Tomorrow night (5/3), Trail-Way swings back into action
with 1000cc “Sidewinders,” 600-cc micros, and
the 270cc micros in a pair of features which includes a make-up
from last Saturday (4/26). Also in action will be the Starlite
ovals and scramble cars. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., with the
first green flag scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Gates and racing are at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.,
respectively.

BRENT ECKERT CLAIMS 4-CYLINDER STARLITE WIN AS THE RAIN WASHES
OUT THE REMAINING MICRO AND STOCK CAR FEATURES
Hanover, PA (4/26/08) – Outside polesitter, Brent Eckert,
along with starlite ace Shawn Crunkilton, put on an amazing
show in the 4 cylinder starlite oval class, Saturday night
at Trail-Way Speedway.
Brent Eckert took the initial race lead, taking complete
command of the 12-lap feature race, until he came in contact
with lapped traffic. Crunkilton was able to pull up on Eckert’s
bumper, trying both the inside and outside for an advantage
for the lead.
With two laps to go, Eckert maneuvered his car around lapped
traffic perfectly, so that Crunkilton lost ground and was
never able to catch up to attempt to take the win away.
Following Eckert across the line was Crunkilton, 15th starti8ng
Daryl Hanson in third, 16th starting Joseph Flanary in fourth
and 13h starting Robert Nicklow completed the top five.
Damien Eckert, Jim Jacobs, Anthony Nine, Wes McDaniel, and
Broc Lawrence rounded out the top ten.
A few minutes following the checkered flag in the 4 cylinder
feature race, the rains came, forcing Trail-Way Speedway to
call the event. Because all heat races were completed, the
races were declared completed.

McCLELLAND CLAIMS INSINGER PERFORMANCE “358”
SPRINT CAR SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP;
RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF RMP THUNDERCAR, LIMITED STOCK
FEATURES
Hanover, PA (4/25/08) –What a difference a week makes.
Brad McClelland, who sat in the stands to watch last week’s
feature after suffering mechanical problems while leading
his qualifier, motored to his first win of the year in the
30-lap Insinger Performance “358” Sprint Car Spring
Championship at Trail-Way Speedway Friday night.
“It’s easy to win from the front,” said
McClelland upon exiting the B&D Truck Hoist/J&K Salvage/Hoosier
Tire/VMAC Racing #6 following his 11th career win at the McSherrystown
oval, “What was tough was watching last week wishing
I was out there.”
McClelland, who started on the outside of row one, followed
polesitter Dale Hammaker into the first turn at the start,
then chased the Hammaker’s Machine Shop #66 for the
first seven laps until Hammaker’s steering wheel fell
off and he spun into the infield to complete the seventh lap.
Hammaker reattached his steering wheel and tagged the rear,
coming back through the field to finish eighth at the finish.
McClelland was unchallenged the rest of the way, despite
a 28th-lap caution for Darren Schott, who spun in turn two.
One lap earlier, eighth-starting Billy Dietrich passed Steve
Owings for second.
“I saw the 8D on the scoreboard,” said McClelland,
“Then he gave me a nudge on the backstretch and I knew
it was time to sit up in the seat.”
A textbook restart gave McClelland all the room he needed
to take the $1,200 top prize.
Dietrich, last week’s winner, settled for second with
Owings third. Tim Wagaman III and 12th-starting Danny Dietrich
completed the top five. Sixth through tenth were Mike Duncan,
Brian Eichelberger, Dale Hammaker, DS Diversified Services
hard charger Nathan Berwager (who started 17th), and and 13th-starting
Nicole Bower.
McClelland’s win came six days after son Tim won his
first career 270-cc micro-sprint feature.
“It was exciting,” said McClelland of Tim’s
win, “But he’s got a long way to go yet.”
Heats for the 24 “358” sprinters were won by
Owings, Dale Hammaker, and Joe Trone, Jr.
Rain forced postponement of the remainder of the show with
two laps complete in the 20-lap RMP Thundercar feature. The
event will be made up on Friday, May 9th.
Heats for the 14 thundercars were won by Sam Gallagher and
Brian Walls.
Limited stocks were only able to complete hot laps at intermission,
and will make up their feature as part of next Friday’s
show (5/2).

4/19/08 JIMMY BROOKENS NAVIGATES HIS STALLARD CHASSIS #11
BACK TO VICTORY LANE;
TIM McCLELLAND BATTLES FOR HIS 1st CAREER 270cc WIN
Hanover, PA (4/19/08) – In a caution marred night of
racing, Jimmy Brookens played survival of the fittest and
came out on top in the 20-lap 600cc micro sprint feature,
Saturday night at Trail-Way Speedway.
“I was trying to start different places at different
speeds,” Brookens exclaimed in victory lane, “I
kept trying to do something they think you maybe won’t
do.” Brookens had several chances to try and psych out
the competition, with several key drivers either having mechanical
difficulties or suffering from multi car crashes.
Third starting Jermain Godshall jumped directly behind Brookens
on the initial start when a red flag came out on the second
lap, involving Duane Harbaugh and Mark Strickler on the frontstretch.
Strickler was slow to exit the car, after having been involved
in a red flag earlier in the night in his Sidewinder sprint.
On the next green, Godshall kept to the rear of Brookens
for several laps, looking to make a move for the lead until
spinning out in turn four, giving the second position to Robert
Kendall. Following Kendall was Jan Lucenbaugh, Keith Woodson,
Tim Glatfelter, and Brent Marks.
Kendall tried to force Brookens to the top of the track
on the following start, but Brookens pulled away just enough
to maintain the lead. Kendall only remained a few feet behind
Brookens until yet another claimed Kendall’s #55 as
he slowed on the 14th lap. Only one lap later, Glatfelter
slowed on the backstretch, bringing out the fifth caution
of the night.
Two more cautions forced the eight lap rule to come into
effect. When either a 30 minute time limit or 7 going on 8
cautions has been reached, the final restart is given.
Taking the green, Brookens kept directly in front of second
running Luckenbaugh as David Feeser and Jon Bakner tangled
going into turns one and two forcing the checkered and caution
flag to end the feature race.
As Brookens took the checkered flag, Luckenbaugh completed
the night in second followed by Isaac Sneeringer in third,
Kyle Moody in fourth, and Dwayne Gutshall completing the night
in fifth.
Brad Weber, Joe Robertson, Tyler Esh, Josh Schrum, and Todd
Schaefer rounded out the top ten.
Heat winners were Kendall, Woodson, and Godshall. Duane
Harbaugh took the consolation race win.
Tim McClelland followed in his father, Brad McClelland’s
footsteps Saturday night at Trail-Way. After taking over the
lead from race long leader Jim Still following a caution flag,
yet another caution came out allowing Still to challenge McClelland
on the restart. Still was able to pull beside McClelland on
the restart and lead lap 14 when McClelland powered by Still
on the following lap, taking his first checkered flag of the
270cc micro sprint career.
Following McClelland across the line was Still, Cody Phillips,
Todd Hoover, and Sean McAndrew rounding out the top five.
Completing the top ten were Mike Boyer, Tanner Hunsicker,
Steve Daron, Jim Myers, and Michael Boer.
Heats were won by Nik Gower, McCelland, and Phillips.
In the Sidewinder sprints division, Brent Marks made a late
race pass on race long leader, Rick Hench, to take the checkered
flag. Following Marks and Hench across the line were Tim Mertz,
Jeremy Lynch, and Shawn Seifert, all credited with a top five
finish.
Roy Denike picked up a pair of wins tonight, one in the
scramble cars, and one in the 6 cylinder oval division. In
the other scramble car feature, Steven Alban Jr. got his first
win of 2008. In the 4 cylinder oval division, Terry Hartlaub
nabbed the win.

4/18/08DIETRICH OVER ROHRBAUGH IN THRILLING TRAIL-WAY 358
SPRINT OPENER;
THOMAS CLAIMS MILLER’S RACIING PARTS THUNDERCAR SPRING
CHAMPIONSHIP
Hanover, PA (4/18/08) –The packed house knew it would
be a good one when Billy Dietrich and Jeff Rohrbaugh lined
up on the front row for Friday night’s season-opening
“358” sprint car feature at Trail-Way Speedway.
Dietrich, Brad McClelland, and Rohrbaugh are the all-time
winningest drivers at the McSherrystown oval, and McClelland
was unable to start the feature after dropping from the field
while leading his heat.
Dietrich was slated to start third, but moved to the point
when Colt White opted for the rear.
And two of Trail-Way’s all-time best put on the show
the fans had come to see.
Dietrich took the lead at the drop of the green and weathered
several caution flags to lead the first 20 laps with Rohrbaugh
right on his tail. Rohrbaugh stuck his nose under Dietrich
several times as the two hit lapped traffic on lap 13. For
the next seven laps the two raced wheel-to-wheel, with Rohrbaugh
actually scored the leader as the two evaded Mike Duncan (driving
out of the infield after getting out of shape) on lap 21.
Dietrich reclaimed the lead entering the first turn, and
held off the Roy Vincent Racing #7V over the final four laps
for his division-leading 12th career Trail-Way win.
“That wore me out!” exclaimed a happy Dietrich
upon exiting his Racers Used Parts/William Shellehamer Hay
& Straw/ Café Custom Cycles/Hoosier Tire #8D in
victory lane, “We haven’t raced much yet this
year. Jeff is a great driver and I was going to stick to my
guns…if he passed me, he passed me.”
When asked about the seven caution flags in the first six
laps, Dietrich quipped, “We can run one lap at a time
as long as I’m in the lead.”
Two-time defending track champ Rohrbaugh settled for second,
with Randy Whisler scored third every lap. Danny Dietrich
and Dale Hammaker ran side-by-side and passed each other several
times during the event to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
Completing the top ten were Steve Owings, Ron Kramer, Mike
Ressler, Duncan, and Craig Laudermilch.
Heats for the 22 “358” sprinters on hand were
won by Joe Trone, Jr., Rohrbaugh, and Danny Dietrich. Both
Rohrbaugh and Danny Dietrich ran faster 10-lap qualifying
events than the existing track record, with Rohrbaugh’s
2:20.07 establishing a new record previously held by Mike
Lehman (2:20.30 set on 9/2/05).
Gettysburg’s Ronnie Thomas claimed the win in the
25-lap Miller’s Racing Parts RMP Thundercar Sprint Championship.
Thomas started on the pole and led the first eight laps
before Sam Gallagher took over the top spot for one lap. Thomas
reclaimed the lead on lap 10 and controlled the remainder
of the event.
Kyle Martin squeezed by Gallagher on lap 20 and finished
second, with Gallagher third, Justin Mong fourth, and Rick
Weaver fifth.
Wes McDaniel took the lead when Kyle Rohrbaugh dropped into
the infield on lap six and went on to score the win in the
12-lap limited stock feature. Terry Hartlaub and Mark Reece
were second and third.

TANNER HUNSICKER LEADS ENTIRE 270cc MICRO FEATURE TO TAKE
1st CHECKERED FLAG OF 2008
Hanover, PA (4/12/08) – Tanner Hunsicker ran a perfect
race, Saturday night at Trail-Way Speedway. Hunsicker’s
only competition was that of fifth starting, Steve Daron.
Daron kept several car lengths behind Hunsicker for the majority
of the race until Austen Treuchet attempted to take his car
off the track but was unable to do so, causing the first caution
of the race to wave.
On the next start, Daron attempted to jump to the inside
of Hunsicker, while the 2007 track champion, Todd Hoover,
worked on Steve Whary for the third position. Daron was unable
to get around Hunsicker for the lead, but Daron finally got
around Whary on the following lap.
With two laps to go, Daron pulled up to Hunsicker’s
bumper, looking like he might have something for him on the
final lap. As Hunsicker and Daron took the white flag, Daron
jumped all over the track trying to make the race winning
pass on Hunsicker, but unfortunately for Daron, a race ending
red flag came out as they were battling on the backstretch.
Jim Myers brought out the red flag on the final lap by flipping
on the front stretch. Myers was okay, but as for the rest
of the field, Trail-Way Speedway rules state that after the
white flag is given to the drivers, if a caution or red flag
comes out, the race is deemed complete, giving Hunsicker the
win.
Following Hunsicker across the line was Daron, Hoover, Whary
and Jim Still completing the top five. Cody Phillips, Nik
Gower, JB Cunningham, Michael Boer, and Jim Myers rounded
out the top ten.
In the Glick Fire Equipment Series Legends Cars, Josh Morrow
took over the race lead on the second lap of twenty, grabbing
his first Legends win of the 2008 season.
Pole sitter Randy Fetteroff led the firsts lap, but a charging
Morrow quickly took over the race lead on the following lap.
Morrow jumped out to a half straightaway lead from the rest
of the field when he hit the burm going into turns one and
two. Fortunately for Morrow, his lead was lengthy, so he was
able to maintain a sufficient lead t take the checkered flag.
Completing the top five, following Morrow across the line,
were Tom Mayberry, Randy Kissinger, Greg Burd, and Scott Houdeshell.
Defending track champion, Dwayne Gutshall, pulled out some
gutsy moves to take the checkered flag in the 20-lap 600cc
micro sprint feature. Outside polesitter Jasen Geesaman led
the first few laps, but after a red flag due to a multi car
wreck on the backstretch, Gutshall moved like a sling shot
into the lead, pulling away from the entire field.
The only car that was able to contend for the lead was Jimmy
Brookens. With only five laps to go, Brookens pulled to the
inside of Gutshall on the backstretch and drove up over his
tires, causing Brookens to spin out and flip over. Brookens
was finished for the night, but Gutshall was able to continue.
Gutshall maintained the lead for the final laps of the race,
taking home the checkered flag.
Following Gutshall across the line was Jermain Godshall,
Brent Marks, Tim Dietz, and Jan Luckenbaugh completing the
top five. Jim Young, Tim Glatfelter, Geesaman, Brad Weber,
and Isaac Sneeringer rounded out the top ten.
In the scramble car division, Mark Reece and Roy Denike
both picked up feature wins. In the 4 cylinder starlite oval
class, Joseph Flanary got the win and in the 6 cylinder class,
Wes McDaniel took the win.

TIMOTHY GLATFELTER DOMINATES 600cc MICRO FEATURE
Chad Hough gets the Sidewinder win; Sean McAndrew leads all
20 laps to take 270cc win
Hanover, PA – Timothy Glatfelter made the right adjustments
to his 600cc micro sprint following his heat race, putting
him on the point, poised to take his first feature win of
the 2008 racing season.
Glatfelter started the 20-lap feature in the inside of the
third row, but with polesitter Jeremy Mehring opting to go
to the rear on the initial start, Sneeringer was the only
car blocking him from the lead. Glatfelter was able to take
the lead, putting Sneeringer in second.
Due to only one caution during the entire feature race, Glatfelter
was bale to pull away from the entire field, allowing no one
a chance to take the win away.
Following Glatfelter across the line was Sneeringer, Dwayne
Gutshall who made a last lap pass on Brent Marks who completed
the night in fourth, and Tyler Walton completed the night
with a top five finish. Ben Murpy, Tim Dietz, who started
in the 22nd starting spot, David Feeser, Keith Woodson, and
Jeremy Lynch rounded out the top ten.
Chad Hough picked up his first Sidewinder win after leading
the entire 20-lap feature. Hough started the feature in the
third position, but was later pushed up to the pole position
the polesitter, James Shaw, spun out on the initial green,
collecting Mark Strickler in the process. Both cars were able
to tag on to the rear of the field, but yet another caution
came out involving Strickler in the first and second turn
area.
Trail-Way Speedway’s rule states that once there are
two complete double file restarts, the field must make a complete
restart running single file. Due to the rule, Chad Hough was
given the lead over Ryan Greth. Greth was unable to get around
Hough for the remaining laps, giving Hough the win.
Following Hough across the line was Shawn Seifert, Tim Mertz,
Brent Marks, and Greth completing the top five. Rick Hench,
Jeremy Lynch, Jason Morrison, Rohan Beasley, and Strickler
rounded out the top ten.
In the 270cc micro sprint feature race, Sean McAndrew grabbed
the win over a charging Jim Still. McAndrew was moved up to
the pole position after mechanical difficulties claimed the
life of polesitter, Michael Boer’s #22 micro sprint.
McAndrew was able to hold the lead throughout several cautions,
with Jim Still knocking on the door at each restart. Still
tried to go high and low, but McAndrew held it on the bottom
and drove straight to victory lane.
Still completed the night in the second spot followed by
Cody Phillips in third, Nik Gower in fourth, and Todd Hoover
completing the night with a top five finish after being involved
in an accident on the first lap of the 20-lap feature. Steve
Daron, Eddie Wagner, Steve Whary, Jim Myers, and JB Cunningham
completed the top ten.
In 6 cylinder starlite oval racing action, Roy Denike passed
Mercedee Hostetter on the third lap, to take the 12-lap feature
win. Shawn Crunkilton took the 4 cylinder starlite oval win
after a 5 car battle for the lead in the last 5 laps
Rusty Warnick and Brad Shank both took scramble car feature
wins.

STEVE WHARY CATCHES A BIT OF GOOD LUCK IN THE FINAL LAPS
OF THE 600cc FEATURE
Robert Kendall edges in 2nd career win over a charging Tom
Kohler
Hanover, PA – When a person thinks of a daytime track,
they normally think of no passing, single file racing. Today’s
270cc micro sprint feature proved to be anything but that.
On the initial start, Jesse Maurer got sideways going into
turns 1 and 2, and in turn collected Michael Ertter, Brian
Sipling, Michael Boer, and David Skinner. Boer and Skinner
were the only cars able to continue.
Due to the caution, the next start was a complete restart.
Polesitter Nik Gower took complete control of the race from
the drop of the green, pulling several car lengths away from
second position’s Steve Whary in only a few turns. On
the second lap, a charging Bill Laughman got sideways coming
out of turn two, collecting Trail-Way Speedway 2007 track
champion, Todd Hoover in the process. Both Hoover and Laughman
were able to restart their cars, but unfortunately had to
tag on at the rear of the field.
The next green flag run went seven laps until Jim Still
spun out in turns 1 and 2. By this time, Todd Hoover had made
his way up to the top ten. A strong Sean McAndrew was challenging
Tim McClelland for the third position, while Whary was still
in the runner up spot, and Gower kept well ahead of the rest
of the field.
On the start, Whary had nothing for Gower, although McClelland
attempted to go to the inside of Whary, but was unable to
complete the pass sending him back several car lengths, giving
McAndrew a chance to grab the third position away. McAndrew
attempted to play catch up with Whary, but locked up his car
on the backstretch with only seven laps to go. Under that
same caution, the race long leader, Nik Gower, pulled his
car to the infield, giving the lead to Whary.
Lining up directly behind Whary was Cody Phillips, McClelland,
Eddie Wagner, and Hoover. Because of some in car adjustments
made by Whary following the caution, Whary was unstoppable
in the final laps of the race. Wagner made his was to the
third position when a caution came out with two laps to go.
During the caution flag, McClelland also drove into the infield,
unable to rejoin the field. On the final green, Wagner made
his last charge, trying to race around Phillips, and was able
to take the second position.
Following Whary and Wagner across the line was Phillips,
Hoover, and 20th starting Steve Daron, who completed the day
with a top five finish. David Holbrook, Laughman, Still, Ken
Leese, and Steven Cox rounded ou the top ten.
JB Cunningham and Bill Laughman were the heat winners.
In 600cc micro sprint racing, Robert Kendall took complete
control of the first half of the 20-lap feature race, until
a charging Tom Kohler reeled Kendall in lap by lap. It wasn’t
until the final 7 laps, when lapped traffic became a factor
that Kohler was finally able to pull up to Kendall, and in
turn challenged him for the lead. With two laps to go, Kohler
was on Kendall’s bumper, attempting to take away the
lead and ultimately the race win. Kendall held on with the
white flag coming out, as Kohler pulled up beside him on the
final lap, coming out of turn four at the checkered flag.
Kendall edged out the win, making it his second 600cc micro
sprint win t Trail-Way Speedway.
Following Kendall and Kohler across the line was Jan Luckenbaugh
in third, polesitter Matt Pupello in fourth, and Duane Harbaugh
rounding out the top five. Bill Thomas, Arron Spahr, Heath
Hehnly, Timothy Glatfelter, and Ben Murphy completed the top
ten.
Heat winners for the 40 600cc micro sprints in attendance
were Timothy Glatfelter, Ben Murphy, Bill Thomas, and Lex
Burritt. Brent Marks and Tyler Esh were the consolation race
winners.
In 4 cylinder starlite oval racing action, Brent Eckert
took the win. In 6 cylinder starlote oval racing, Chad Stine
led all 12 laps to take the win. As if one win wasn’t
enough, Stine made it back to back wins, taking the checkered
flag in the first scramble car feature race. The second scramble
car feature saw Rusty Warnick picking up the win.

RICK STIEF SNAGS 600cc MICRO SPRINT FEATURE
Jeremy Lynch captures Sidewinder feature win;
Defending track champ Todd Hoover finds himself back in victory
lane
Hanover, PA – “Starting on the pole didn’t
hurt a bit,” were the words from Rick Stief after exiting
his 600cc micro sprint. Stief, who started on the pole, led
all 20 laps of the 1st 600cc feature race of the 2008 season.
Although Stief started on the pole, he wasn’t just handed
the win.Several cautions plagued the race, and each and every
time it felt like Stief’s tires were getting better,
another caution would come out.Outside polesitter, Joe Robertson,
was the only driver that challenged Stief for the lead. After
a caution on the 16th lap, brought out by Isaac Sneeringer,
Robertson was able to challenge Stief for the lead. With daytime
racing conditions making it harder to pass for the lead, Robertson
was unable to pull to the inside of Stief and ended up falling
in line behind him.
Fourth starting Tim Dietz held the third position for several
laps, but unfortunately during the same caution on the 16th
lap, Dietz stopped in the fourth turn and had to fall in line
at the rear of the field. On the green, following Robertson’s
brief challenge for the lead, Stief took a commanding lead,
sailing to his first victory of the 2008 racing season.Following
Stief across the line was Robertson in second, Arron Spahr
in third, Brent Marks in fourth, and Mike Rutherford completing
the top five. Tom Kohler, Bill Thomas, Duane Harbaugh, Kyle
Moody, and Jake Murphy rounded out the top ten.Tyler Esh,
Spahr, and Dietz were heat winners. Murphy was the consolation
race winner.
2007 Trail-Way Speedway track champion, Todd Hoover, in the
270cc micro division, made a daytime track look like a racey
nighttime surface in the first 270cc micro sprint race of
the 2008 season. Polesitter Nik Gower held off several charges
from Richie Hartman, while Todd Hoover maneuvered his way
from his fifth starting spot, eventually taking over the second
spot by the ninth lap.
It took Hoover one more lap to complete the race winning
pass on Gower. Gower was left to battle with Hartman, Jesse
Maurer, and Patrick Bealer for the remaining spots in the
top five, as Hoover held a commanding lead until the checkered
flag came out.Following Hoover across the line was Gower,
Hartman, Bealer, and Maurer completing the top five. Sean
McAndrew, Mike Rutherford, Brayden Winters, Timothy Buckwalter,
and Cody Phillips completed the top ten.Hoover, Jim Still,
and Gower were heat winners. Ken Duke Jr., was the consolation
race winner.
Jeremy Lynch took total control of the freshman class of
Sidewinder sprints last season, and picked up where he left
off in the first Sidewinder sprint car race of the 2008 season.
Lynch led all 20 laps of the feature race, and was untouchable
the entire time.
Ryan Greth held on to the second spot from the drop of the
initial green until he slowed on lap 11, and later brought
out the caution on lap 12 as he wasn’t able to drive
the car completely off the track. Ron Taggart, who fell in
line behind Greth, took over the second place spot, and kept
directly behind Lynch until the checkered came out.
Following Lynch and Taggart across the line was Rohan Beasley
in third, Shawn Seifert in fourth, and Tim Mertz completing
the top five. Chad Hough, Mark Strickler, Jason Morrison,
James Shaw, and Michael Pychinka rounded out the top ten.
Morrison and Mertz were heat winners.
